The 4th annual 5K Turkey Trot against Hunger will take place at Riverside Park on Thanksgiving morning, November 24 from 7:30 am. Entry fees are $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the run. In addition, a one mile run for kid’s aged 6-10 takes place at 7:15, entry is free. Proceeds from the run will go to the Harvest Food and Outreach Center.

Participants solicit sponsors and can run or walk the 5K route. Afterwards, they will be served a breakfast of sweet potato pancakes from the Marsh Landing Restaurant. Local businesses are also encouraged to sponsor this event. Printing companies in Vero Beach will most likely be providing banner printing services to the event.

In addition to taking part in the run, organizers of the Turkey Trot are asking that participants also bring along some non-perishable food to donate to families in need.

While many families will be sitting down to a great Thanksgiving dinner with their friends and family on November 24, a lot of the families in Florida will be going without. A lot of organizations do serve Thanksgiving dinner to the less fortunate but still many people have to go without. Those taking part in the Turkey Trot are aware of this and want to change it. Organizations such as the Harvest Food and Outreach Center strive to help those who are less fortunate. The Center provides services such as hunger relief, crisis services, educational classes and career training; it has served the community since 2003.
