Tampa officers to walk the walk once again

The Tampa Police Department (TPD) has announced its 19th annual run/walk. The event is held every year to honor the department’s fallen officers, and the monies raised go to support the Memorial Scholarship Program and the Police Museum, as well as helping to maintain the Police Memorial. Tickets are now on sale for the races.

This year’s event comprises both a 5K run and a one-mile run/walk. Tickets for the 5K run are $25 each, while the shorter option’s fee is $15.The races start at the headquarters of the TPD, located in the city’s downtown area at 411 North Franklin Street. From there, the route follows Bayshore Boulevard through downtown Tampa and loops back around to finish at the headquarters building. There is a park across the street from the TPD where race participants can relax and cool down after the run.

Runners can buy tickets in advance at TPD headquarters, from any Sports Authority store in Tampa, or online, and the entire family is welcome to participate. Each person registered for the race will receive a T-shirt. The Columbia, a famous Tampa restaurant, will be serving food on the day.

The department expects as many as 1,400 people to take part in the event, which is slated for October 12, a Saturday, starting at 8:00 am. Registration closes October 9 at 11:59 pm.

Race organizers might work with a banner printing company to devise colorful pennants to add to the day’s festivities.
