At Soar Park in the Little Haiti section of Miami, a ribbon-cutting is scheduled to take place this afternoon. It is in commemoration of the opening of the Little Haiti Optimist Club Community Tech & Youth Center, which will provide a wide range of services to the community.

The center, located at 100 NW 83rd Street, will seek to serve the educational, social, and recreational needs of local residents. The center came into being when club received permission from the parks Department to remodel an existing building in the park.

In the next few months the local print company will be kept busy providing flyer printing services for the center. Announcements will be for computer training for children and adults as well as educational classes. With the printers, copiers, and computers available at individual work stations, residents will be able to conduct jobs searches as well as improve their office skills.

While its position as a single-stop center at which residents can gain the skills to improve their employment options takes center stage, the new facility will also serve a variety of other functions. The bulletin board displaying job postings will carry the recreational programs offered at the center. Classes will be offered on a range of subjects, including those related to job placement and personal enrichment.

The new location will serve the youth of the area with afterschool activities, as well as summer programs providing a safe, fun environment for children.
