Mitch Winterman and his future wife Alexis got married at 1:00 pm after taking part and completing a half marathon.

Mr. Winterman, a Fort Lauderdale resident ran the half marathon before marrying Alexis. According to him, the run helped to calm his nerves, although the big day itself was a bit of a rush. He also walked to the start line from his house before going on to complete the half marathon.

Of the 5,000 runners taking part in the Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon, the winner was Tim McDuffee, aged 40, who took part in the race just three weeks after competing in the ING Miami Marathon. The race was won by McDuffee in 2:40:41, two minutes faster than the competitor who came in second place. The winner of the women’s race was Pamela Manley, 35, who finished 10 minutes ahead of the other runners. The race took place from Fort Lauderdale, across the beach. McDuffee discovered he was ahead of the other runners when a cop escort on a motorcycle told him “You’re it!”

Although McDuffee has taken part in 15 marathons, this is the first that he has won. Manley has previously taken part in 14 marathons, with this being her first win. For the last two years Manley has concentrated on having her baby Luke, who is now eight months old. Local printers may have been able to take advantage of promotion requirements for the race, offering flyer printing services.
