For the 27th year, WESH Channel 2 located near Daytona Beach, Florida, held its ‘Share Your Christmas’ food drive. WESH no doubt used flyer printing and poster printing to announce the week-long event, which began last Monday, to its viewers and others in the Central Florida area so that as much food as possible could be collected to help those in need at this time of year.

The event began with a special appeal last Monday morning by Claire Metz. She reminded viewers that the food would be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida so that all food donated would remain in the local area. The Second Harvest Food Bank is established so that more than 500 grass roots organizations in Central Florida can be provided with food and basic-need items.

Drop off sites for food were the Daytona International Speedway held on Monday, December 10, and the WESH studios in Winter Park on Friday, December 14, from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm. Anyone who donated more than four cans of food on the Monday would receive a tour of the Speedway lasting for 30 minutes.

Last year, more than 80,000 pounds of food were donated through the annual event and WESH was hoping that these totals could be exceeded this year. It is reported that just on the Monday alone, 18,000 pounds of food were donated.

Food was also able to be donated by means of an online shopping cart. Monetary donations were also accepted so that the food most needed could be purchased as well.
