Football event touches down in Coral Gables

As part of the lead up to the 2013-14 football season, the annual CanesFest took place on Saturday, August 17 in Coral Gables.

Over 4,400 fans attended the event, many wanting to meet the football players. The University of Miami was well represented by the huge numbers of players and fans at the BankUnited Center.

One graduate of University of Miami, Jonathan Hutner, and his family travelled to South Florida especially to attend the event. The family purchased a ticket to watch three games: Virginia Tech, Gators, and Virginia.

Over 100 players were sat at tables which were placed in long lines around the sports arena, with offense and defense at opposite ends of the room. In another area of the arena, a display had been set up with UM Sports Hall of Fame items. Mark D’Onofrio and James Coley, the defensive and offensive coordinators respectively, sat alongside Coach Al Golden to sign autographs and welcome fans. Queues of fans lined up around the arena waiting to meet their favorite players, some of whom said they had set off as early as 8:00 am to drive to Coral Gables.

A number of players from previous years were walking around the arena, including the current president of the UM Sports Hall of Fame, K.C. Jones. Although the event is widely publicized by the University of Miami and is a popular annual event, local printers may have been required for banner printing and other printing services.
