Model train collectors to track down collectables

November 30, 2012 by

Model trains seem to be growing in popularity every year, with Scale Models, Arts, & Technologies, Inc (SMARTT) reporting that celebrities like Rod Stewart, Jon Bon Jovi, and Curt Schilling are fans of the pastime. Most people know at least one person who has model train sets, meaning that they are probably looking for a train-related Christmas gift for that person. Thankfully, those in the Tampa area, including nearby Brandon, can probably find such an item at the Tampa Railfair and Model Train Show.

The show will feature over 350 dealers selling trains and accessories from manufacturers such as American Flyer and Lionel. In addition, there will be clinics on model train layouts, eight large working railroad layouts, a display by the Greater Florida Lego Train Club, and even a ride-on train for children. Santa Claus will also be showing up and giving out free gifts. This should be a great opportunity for those who are looking for that missing piece of their collection, in addition to those looking for the perfect holiday gift for a friend or family member.

Organizers are likely working with local printing companies to let the public know about this upcoming event. The 8th annual Tampa RailFair and Model Train Show will take place at the Florida State Fairgrounds on December 15 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and on December 16 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Tickets are $8 and cover both days, and children under 12 are admitted free. For more information, call 813-949-7197.
