Family friendly event helps celebrate New Year festivities

December 5, 2013 by

The 21st annual First Night celebration is taking place in St. Petersburg this New Year’s Eve, with the theme of the family friendly event being ‘First Flight’.

The evening starts off at the Morean Arts Center with a hat and mask making activity for children at 4:00 pm. There will also be a petting zoo and a puppet show. The procession of flight is taking place at 7:00 pm and will make its way to the waterfront. Once there, children will take part in the bubble stomp. The first fireworks display will take place at 8:00 pm.

Activities for adults will include musical entertainment, drama performances, dance demonstrations, hand-on art projects, games, and art displays. Street performers will be wandering around and there will be a short film festival and tai chi demos. The Dragon procession will take place at 10:00 pm led by illuminated lanterns. To see in 2014, the evening will be rounded off with a fireworks display at midnight.

This event is likely to attract visitors from all over the area, including nearby Brandon. Local print companies are often asked to help advertise such events by providing marketing materials such as flyers and booklets.

Participants must purchase a button for admission, which costs $10 for adults in advance or $15 on December 31, and $5 for children aged 6-12 or $10 on the day. Alternatively, a family pass is $30. To learn more about the evening’s events, call 727-823-8906.
