Alabaster Target shopping center to get restaurants and Dick’s Sporting Goods

The City of Alabaster recently announced that a new Dick’s Sporting Goods and one or two restaurants will be opening in the Target shopping center that is located of Interstate 65 and Highway 31. The City is most likely using flyer printing and poster printing to make shoppers in the City aware of these latest additions to the shopping center.

The exterior walls of the Dick’s Sporting Goods store have begun being erected by the construction crews. The store is planned to be around 50,000 square feet in size and will be directly adjacent to Target.

According to George Henry, Alabaster City Manager, the construction of the new businesses is expected to be completed sometime in the spring of 2014. The names of the restaurants that could move into the shopping center were not known at the time of the announcement.

In May, the Alabaster City Council approved the construction activity in a deal that would give $2 million in tax breaks to Highway 11/31 II LLC, a developer based on Delaware. In the deal, a set percentage of the annual sales tax generated by the new retailer once it opens for business will be refunded by the city. The incentive will end after 10 years or when the amount of the refund hits a cap of $1.94 million depending on which comes first.

According to State Senator Cam Ward, because the city is not putting any money up front for the deal, having the new retailer in the shopping center will be a boon for the area.
