Specialty care office opened in Commack

A hamlet that Smithtown shares with the Town of Huntington has a new 120,000 square foot Advanced Specialty Care office opened by Stoney Brook Medicine.

Located in the space formerly occupied by the headquarters of Forest Labs in Commack, the new facility is a first for Stoney Brook Medicine and contains 30 medical specialties. Among the specialties represented are primary care, pediatrics, radiology, surgery, and urology. Stoney Brook anticipates the new office will give it a competitive advantage in western Suffolk County.

Dr. Kenneth Kaushansky, Dean of Stoney Brook University School of Medicine and Senior VP for Health Science, likened the new Advanced Specialty Care facility to a one-stop shopping experience. He also expressed his opinion that multidisciplinary clinics like this one represent the future of healthcare and will prove beneficial to patients and doctors alike.

Among the offices that will need to update their stationery printers of their new address is Stony Brook’s WTC Wellness Program, which treats first responders who are dealing with 9/11-related health issues. The Program’s office is slated to occupy about 20,000 square feet of the Commack facility.

Suffolk and Nassau counties are expected to see an increased demand for healthcare. The state of New York has projected that the period from 2012 to 2023 will see a 23% increase in healthcare job on Long Island. This represents more than double the overall employment growth for the island.
