L.L. Bean’s first LI store opening five miles from Smithtown

Recently L.L. Bean announced that next spring it will be launching a new store, its first on Long Island (LI), in the Smith Haven Mall.

The mall, located in Lake Grove just five miles from Smithtown, will house the 16,000 square-foot store where footwear, and active and casual apparel will share floor space with outdoor lifestyle gear. Included in the outdoor gear are items pertaining to kayaking, fly-fishing, and hiking, as well as camping products and winter gear.

Senior vice-president and retail general manager at L.L. Bean, Ken Kacere, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for opening a location in Suffolk County. He also noted that the new store’s location near numerous outdoor recreational opportunities would likely prove advantageous. Many companies choose to go the extra mile to benefit their own sales numbers via cross marketing with the use of custom calendars.

The Connetquot and Nissequogue Rivers, Great South Bay and Long Island Sound all offer opportunities for fishing and paddling. Additionally, numerous bike paths are scattered throughout the area, along with other outdoor recreation options.

The Smith Haven Mall store will be L.L. Bean’s fifth in New York store. It is expected to provide 70 new jobs when it opens. Until then, shoppers can enjoy a preview in the form of a pop-up shop directly outside the future store’s entrance.
