Sioux Falls gets ready for the 4th of July

June 19, 2018 by

Sioux Falls officials are looking for people who want to help celebrate Independence Day by taking part in the annual parade. Clubs, marching bands, military groups, civic organizations, local businesses, and anyone who is interested is encouraged to take part.

A number of events will take place on the 4th in addition to the parade, such as a fun run/walk, and a band concert.

Parade participants may start checking in as early as 8:15 am on July 4; the check-in point is at Tenth Avenue and Main Street. The parade will begin at 10:00 am. Children who would like to do so may decorate their bicycles and take part in the parade, and they should start lining up at 9:30 am, near the parking ramp at Main Avenue and 13th Street. Children are not required to preregister.

After the parade, Falls Park will be the site of a free picnic at 11:00 am, and everyone’s invited. Last year, there were almost 90 entries in the parade, and more than 5,000 people came to celebrate the day.

The final day and time to register online for the parade is next Monday, June 25, at 5:00 pm. Only a limited number will be accepted, though walk-up entries will be taken on the day of the event.

Events like this can be even more fun if organizers work with a banner printing company to create colorful banners to mark the parade route.
