Shelton to host outdoor event

April 6, 2017 by

At the end of this month, there will be a Community Wiffle Ball Tournament and 5k Run/Walk at Shelton High School Finn Stadium.

The event is sponsored by the Shelton Education Endowment Fund (SEEF). Proceeds will go toward funding scholarships for students the Innovative Teaching and Learning Mini-Grants. The grants not only fund more scholarships, but also go toward creative and original projects at every grade that focus on students in the classroom.

Organizers welcome everyone out the 5k, after which the wiffle ball tournament will take place, according to the statement they released. Adults can register in advance until this Saturday, April 8 for $25 or can purchase tickets on the day for $30. Students pay $10 in advance or $15 the day of the event.

The SEEF was established seven years ago by former superintendent Freeman Burr to combat declining educational resources. It gives Shelton High School interest from a large bequest, while all other funding is from the community. The organization hopes to grow and encourage giving from larger donors in order to make the fund self-sufficient in helping city students.

The 5K Run/Walk will start at 9:00 am on Sunday, April 30. There will also be a Student Fun Run starting an hour afterward.

The organization could buy custom print shirts to distinguish the teams in the wiffle ball tournament, or general merchandise to sell to attendees.
