Gaels battle to win against Masuk

On May 6, the Shelton High School boys lacrosse team defeated Masuk High with a final score of 7-5.

The nonconference game took place at Benedict Field at Masuk High. According to Matt Read, coach of the Shelton Gaels, goalie Tim Schiffer was the most valuable player with 13 saves. Panthers coach Terry Stroz concurred, adding that some of the saves were incredible. Schiffer modestly commented that in this game, he was lucky with many of the saves.

Out of the past seven games, the Gaels have come out victorious in five, boasting a record of 5-6 in the season. Although Masuk had good possession of the ball and shot the ball much more, the Gaels’ defense matched them, while the offense scored three each in the second and third quarter.

The team was reeling from its last win but it had been almost a week since the game, leaving Coach Read unsure whether they would be able to keep the momentum. Coach Read stated that Masuk had always defeated them during the regular season. He lives in the district and knows the coaches of the school and their families.

If the Gaels continue their winning streak, the school may want to put up flyers for students, staff, and parents. These could announce where and when the games are taking place, and who the Gaels are playing.
