Autumn tea for historical society

September 26, 2017 by

This weekend, the Shelton Historical Society will hold its annual Autumn Tea.

All proceeds go towards the Shelton Historical Society. Checks can be made out to the Historical Society with a memo indicating that the money is for the tea party, then mailed to PO Box 2155 in Shelton 06484.

The tea will have a Christmas theme. Members created holiday decorations for the tables and holiday treats such as sweet foods, scones, and finger sandwiches. The society invites the women who attend the tea to wear fancy hats.

During the tea, members will showcase new historical pieces. It will also show attendees how to fold napkins into ornate shapes. The Teen Time Travelers, who are the young Historical Society’s members, will volunteer with serving.

The Valley Community Foundation is sponsoring the tea. Shelton Historical Society’s History Center has six structures of historic value on Ripton Road, such as Brownson House demonstrating life on a farm in 1913, and Wilson Barn illustrating how Shelton has grown.

Party favors are popular for festive events such as a social tea. The Shelton Historical Society could sell promotional drinkware in the form of teacups with the Historical Society’s logo and the date of the event.

The event will take place this Saturday, September 30, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Huntington Congregational Church at 19 Church St. Seats are $25.
