Cooking class to help make the most of Schenectady’s harvest

Whether it comes from a market, roadside stand or farmer, fresh produce is a summertime staple for many in Schenectady, and an area workshop will teach them how to make the most from this bounty.

The cooking class, which may be of interest to both the kitchen novice or expert, has a focus on using seasonal produce available in the local area. As they work, the students will learn more about what they can do to support local growers and improve food security.

A salad made from arugula, honey glazed peaches and goat cheese crusted with pecans is just one of the dishes that will be prepared, and this will be followed by making pasta from scratch, which will be served with a basil pesto composed following a classic recipe. They will also be able to sample what they make and then take the recipes home so that they can prepare them for their friends and family.

The Arts Center of the Capital Region is the planner of this culinary event, and both member and non-member priced tickets are available. Stationery printers will be able to provide printed copies of the recipes used and any other information that may be useful to the pupils in a cooking class like this.

June 11 has been chosen as the date or this learning opportunity, and it will be held starting at 6:00 pm at 265 River Street in Troy. The planner’s website can be consulted for more information.
