Santa Ana joins global film fest

Residents in Santa Ana are getting ready for the Manhattan Short Film Festival.

The two-day event is a celebration of short films from around the world, providing visitors a global cinematic experience.

The festival itself is a global event, taking place in over 250 cities around the world between September 23 and October 2. Other cities taking part include American locations such as Phoenix, Baton Rouge, Boston, and New York, as well as cities further afield like Sydney, Vienna, Moscow, London, Mumbai, Cape Town, and Buenos Aires.

Visitors will view a selection of 10 short films from a variety of genres like comedy, drama, animated, documentary, and others. The films will be shown to the audience, who will then be able to vote on which was their favorite. Votes will be counted from all over the world before the winner of the festival is declared. Last year, there were two Oscar nominees among the over 700 entries. Additionally, there is a contest for the best screenplay for a short film, which is still accepting entries.

The Manhattan Short Film Festival will be in Santa Ana this weekend, September 24 at 1:30 pm and 7:30 pm and September 25 at 7:30 pm, at the Frida Cinema, located at 305 E. 4 St. Calendars listing the dates of festivals around the world and the final announcement, as well as a short preview of all the entries, are on the website.
