Havana 1920 restaurant opens in Gaslamp Quarter

The GBOD Hospitality Group, based in San Diego, recently announced that Havana 1920 has opened in the Gaslamp Quarter.

The restaurant, which serves Cuban food, is designed to evoke memories of Ernest Hemingway’s Havana, a city the writer loved and visited often. Hemingway made numerous trips to the island, and lived there for a time.

Chef Anthony Porras is in charge in the kitchen, where he creates classic Cuban treats. His signature dishes include croquettes made with bechamel sauce and ham; a Cuban sandwich (“sandwich Cubano”) with Swiss cheese, ham, pork, mustard and pickles on Cuban bread; and ropa vieja, which is shredded beef with onions and peppers, cooked in a tomato sauce. The restaurant has room for 80 patrons.

The new spot also boasts a bar that features a collection of over 150 rums, including brands like British Navy, and difficult-to-find treats such as Appleton Estate Joy. Ryan Andrews is in charge of the bar, and will be mixing signature cocktails such as the Havana 1920 Daiquiri, made from sugar cane syrup, fresh lime juice, and añejo rum. Another special is the Havana 1920 Mojito, which mixes añejo blanco rum with yerba buena, sugar cane syrup, sugar cane juice, and lime juice.

Opening new eateries like this is exciting, and owners and managers can add to the fun by distributing promotional products to their first customers.
