Sacramento to enjoy a fruitful celebration

The arrival of July means it will soon be time for the weeklong Sacratomato Festival, which is now in its fourth year

Local eateries and watering holes will be offering sweets, drinks, and food all based around Sacramento’s major commodity – the tomato.

Sacramento tomato connoisseurs, and those of us who just enjoy the small red fruit, are invited to meander through Midtown’s Sutter District during the week and enjoy the drink specials and menu options.

The Sacratomato Festival will be the week’s grand finale, and will feature lawn games and a tomato patch for the children. The patch will have face painting, a grow-your-own tomato activity, and balloon creations. Live entertainment will be provided by Simple Creation, and local top chefs will be giving cooking demonstrations. Vendors from Midtown Famers’ Market will be selling fresh fruit and vegetables. Guests will also be able to taste samples of foods and beverages from Midtown eateries.

The festival’s flagship activity will be the salsa making competition. The winner will receive the coveted title of ‘Best Salsa in the Sutter District’, and will surely want to have pictures take for future poster printing.

Sacratomato Week and Festival will be July 17 through 22 The event will be located in Midtown Sacramento’s Sutter District, on the outskirts of Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park in downtown Sacramento.
