Redding readies for a New York New Year’s Eve gala

The North State Symphony will start its new North State Symphony POPS series with a New York City style New Year’s Eve performance. Brochures for the upcoming performances will be out after the New Year.

The evening will begin with hors-d’oeuvres and beverages on the balcony level and a dinner on the lower level during the hour before the concert. This cocktail hour will have live music.

The Symphonic Pops concert will follow. Maestro Scott Seaton will be conducting. Soloists, soprano Olga Perez Flora and James Flora a tenor, will be singing tunes from Broadway shows. The program will include songs such as ‘New York, New York’, ‘Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better’, and ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’. Opera enthusiasts will enjoy the two performers singing Verdi’s drinking song from La Traviata. Pianist Hyperion Knight will play some ragtime pieces and follow with Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’.

The symphony will play ‘Auld Lang Syne’ for the New York City ball drop. The rest of the evening will be for dancing and socializing.

The gala will be December 31 at the Redding Civic Auditorium here in Redding. Doors will open at 5:45 pm. Cocktails begin at 6:00, and the concert will be at 7:00. Balcony tickets including the hors-d’ouevres are $45 and table seating and dinner are $85.
