Redding races around the runway

March 18, 2018 by

Redding airport and the City of Redding will be partnering with Rowell Family Empowerment in a race/walk to raise autism awareness. The event will include a two-mile Fun Walk, 5K race, and a Community Fair.

Runners and walkers in both the 5k and two-mile will be following the same route back and forth on the Benton Airpark concourse. They will go through the course enjoying the mountain range view until they finish at the start line, while the 5k runners continue past the start line and run around the entire concourse that surrounds the runways. The 5k participants will start the route first.

The Community Fair will be free and open to everyone not just to those participating in the walk and run. Run/race spectators can enjoy food at the café, and many are sure to be getting some banner printing done now to wave support for their favorite athletes. Local businesses and community organizations will have booths with interactive activities for the kids. Home Depot is always a favorite, as kids usually make miniature projects such as helicopters and little airplanes.

The raffle will have prizes such as a helicopter ride, a round trip flight, and a free dinner at a local restaurant.

The Airports for Autism Day will be April 21 at the Benton Airpark, 2600 Gold St. starting at 8:00 am.
