Food halls coming to Raleigh

Over the last 20 years, Americans have begun looking at food as an entertainment event, rather than just a meal, and as such, food halls—where a number of restaurants operate—have appeared in several major cities including New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Now, there are four food halls on the way to the Raleigh area.

The Durham Food Hall in Durham will take over the former Liberty Warehouse, while Blue Dogwood will open in a former grocery store in Chapel Hill. In Raleigh proper, the Morgan Street Food Hall and the Transfer Co. will bring new dining choices to residents.

The Hibernian Hospitality Group, owned by Niall Hanley, will operate Morgan Street. The food hall will offer a group of food stalls and single vendors each running separately. The 22,000 square-foot space will have enough participants to make the space seem cozy.

Vendors include Cousins Maine Lobster, a food truck that will operate its first sit-down location; and a butcher shop, taco shop, and pizza parlor.

At the Transfer Co. Food Hall, the emphasis will be on making foods. Videri Chocolate Factory will produce chocolate, and Centro, a Mexican restaurant, will have a taqueria and tortilleria in their space.

Projects like this have so many choices operators might consider working with a flyer printing company to create an attractive handout listing the vendors and their specialties.
