Art of Cool Festival to remain in Durham

The Art of Cool Festival (AOCF) is five years old, and celebrated the occasion on September 16 as part of the ‘Music on the Plaza’ series at Northgate Mall. The festival also took the opportunity to announce next year’s dates.

The AOCF says its mission is to “present, promote, and preserve jazz-influenced music.” It’s a nonprofit organization that tries to cross boundaries—social, economic, or artistic—and bring together people from different cultures, who have different experiences and bring different types of creativity with them.

The organization presents events and concerts at various venues throughout Raleigh and the Triangle in order to share the members’ passion for jazz music, as well as the arts scene found in the region. It also performs to celebrate the idea of community, and most of all, strives to give audiences a great night.

Albert Strong IV, an educator and jazz trumpeter, and Cicely Mitchell, who is with Al Strong Music Productions, founded Art of Cool in Durham, where it will remain. However, it has “expansion plans” for the future, and they include launching a jazz education program, known as StArt of Cool, next year in Raleigh.

Next year’s festival is slated for April 28 to 30, 2017. Organizations like these can benefit by working with brochure printers, which can create booklets explaining educational programs. They can also work with flyer printing companies to form handouts for distribution at events.
