Science fiction convention returns to Portland

Orycon 39 is taking place in Portland next month for three days. It is a fan-run science fiction and fantasy convention.

The convention will bring some very well-known authors and artists to the city. This year’s guests are set to include science fiction author Timothy Zahn, author David Boop who writes speculative fiction and artist Sarah Clemens who is known for creating book covers.

The event will feature panel discussions feature the guests, a gaming room where people can discover new games or bring their own and fan booths. In addition, there will be an art show, a creation station and a costume contest. There will also be a dealer’s room that will feature items such as action figures, posters, photographs and original artwork.

There are set to be an Orykids area which will include special children’s programming, craft and writing activities and music. Childcare will also be available.

The convention will probably be advertised with flyers obtained from a Portland stationery printing company since they are inexpensive and easy to distribute.

Orycon 39 will be held at the Red Lion Hotel in Jantzen Beach from November 17 to 19. Admission for the weekend is $65 for adults and $45 for children between the ages of 6 and 12. To find out more about the convention and a full list of guests, visit the official event website.
