The Chinese New Year Festival is taking place in Portland next month and will continue until March. It will only be held on weekends and is celebrating the Year of the Dog.

The festival will start off on February 16 with the ‘Rolling in the Wealth’ ceremony. All guests will receive free red envelopes and will have the opportunity to roll oranges and coins through the door of the festival venue. That same day, there will be a Chinese folk art demonstration of calligraphy; visitors can get their name or zodiac sign painted in Chinese figures.

Other activities will include lion dances, martial arts demonstrations, craft activities, and performances by local schools. Visitors can learn how to identify different teas at the Teas of Mystery booth, find out about the traditional foods of the New Year, and enjoy music in the teahouse. In addition, they can play Chinese games such as tangrams and a lotus card game. They can also purchase tickets to the lantern viewing on two different weekends; tickets are $25 for Lan Su members, $35 for adults, and $15 for children between the ages of 3 and 11.

Portland printing companies often provide advertising materials to promote events such as this.

The Chinese New Year Festival will be held from February 16 to March 4 at Lan Su Garden. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $7 for students; a family pass is $28. Visit the official website to learn more.
