Portland celebrated Mardi Gras

The 8th annual Portland Mardi Gras ball is taking place next month. Presented by the ‘Mysti Krewe of Nimbus’ and a portion of proceeds are donated to Oregon and Louisiana charities.

The theme of this year’s ball is ‘Rollin’ on the River’. It is set to celebrate a traditional New Orleans Mardi Gras. There will be traditional Cajun food for purchase, a full bar and lots of King Cake.

Guests are encouraged to come in costumes. There will be musical entertainment from artists such as the Bridgetown Sextet, the Too Loose Cajun Band, and the Brassroots Movement Brass Band, dancing and the unveiling of Mardi Gras royalty. In addition, lagniappe (gifts) will be handed out to those in attendance.

The ball is basically a kick off to the Mardi Gras Day parade on February 13. It will begin at 5:30 pm and travel down Mississippi Avenue. Side activities are set to include both kids’ and adult costume contests.

Both of these events are widely advertised in Portland, often with flyers and posters provided by local stationery printing firms. These items can be inexpensively distributed in the city.

The Portland Mardi Gras Ball will be held at the Tiffany Center’s Emerald Ballroom on February 10 beginning at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $25 each. For more information about the ball or the parade, visit the Mysti Krewe of Nimbus’s Facebook page.
