Annual festival celebrates St. Patrick

The 26th annual Kells St. Patrick’s Irish Festival is taking place in Portland for three days next month. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to the Providence Child Center.

The event is set to feature plenty of music (including bagpipes), dance, drink, and traditional Irish foods. One of the most popular events each year is the Black Tie Smoker boxing tournament that features both Irish and American boxer, and tickets are $25 per person.

The three-day festival will be filled with music from artists such as Beltaine, Coming up Threes and Shana Morrison, dance performances from groups like the Murray School, the Yeats School and An Daira Irish Dance, and an Irish beer festival. Guests can also enjoy the cigar room.

The last day is Family Day. There will be lots of family-friendly activities such as face painting, balloon twisting, and Celtic art. There will also be appearances by Irish wolfhounds, bagpipe performances, and soccer games.

No doubt a large number of Portland residents will be ready to celebrate on St. Patrick’s Day. To help spread the word, organizers sometimes invest in flyer printing services.

The Kells St. Patrick’s Irish Festival will be held at Kells Downtown and Kells Brewpub from March 17 to 19. The Black Tie Smoker will take place on March 18 beginning at 5:00 PM. For the most current information, call 503-227-4057.
