Day of community service planned for Pittsburgh

March 21, 2018 by

Volunteers are being sought for a project that will help to bring a touch of beauty to the local neighborhood.

The day of community service will be taking place at Bennet Street and Frankstown Avenue, and it will see those who come aid in the installation of flowers and other landscape features. It is being organized by The Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma, and family and friends are welcome.

The volunteers will plant the flowers and install mulch around the annual beds, and the activity will take place whether it is sunny or raining. While children can participate, the organizers noted that they will need to be supervised by an adult, and the work may not be suitable for those who are under the age of eight. The materials and instructions will be provided, as will gardening gloves.

Snacks and water will be supplied to the group, and the planners have asked that everyone who comes out wears proper footwear; open-toed shoes will not be permitted. There is no charge to be included in this day of community service, and a local banner printing company can create an assortment of materials that let the public know the event is taking place.

May 5 has been chosen as the date for this effort to beautify the area. More details can be found on the organizer’s Facebook page.
