Parker VFW looking for permanent home

Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4266 in Parker are currently looking for their own home in an effort to provide more services to veterans, and increase their support of the community.

The post now meets one night per month in one room, which it leases from South Metro Fire District. The post does not have enough funds to build its own building, so it is looking to the community to help with a donation of land or a building that is central to Castle Rock, Lone Tree, and Parker.

Commander of the Post, Thomas Straley, said that if the post had land or building that needed some renovations, its members could build out the site or carry out the improvements. The post is also looking for monetary donations with a GoFundMe page, seeking a target of $500,000.

Straley added that meeting only once a month is problematic as he would like to have a place where veterans can meet more frequently so as to provide comfort and camaraderie, and a place for veterans to seek support.

The hope is that the building will eventually be 3,000 to 3,500 square feet in size, have a dining area and a kitchen, and a space for the holding of special events.

Flyers are often used to publicize fundraising efforts and the benefits these monetary donations would bring.
