Orlando celebrates the winter chill with ice carving display

Hand-carved sculptures are the central feature of this year’s special winter event in Orlando, titled ‘ICE!’.

Christmas at Gaylord Palms gets a lot frostier this year as the resort presents its Christmas Around the World event in conjunction with a celebration of the beauty of ice. As of Tuesday, million pounds of the frozen substance has been on display, transformed into elaborate sculptures by Chinese artists.

Ice may not be what people expect when they visit sunny Florida but the unexpected is can offer an opportunity for businesses looking for exciting design ideas for their ad specialties, or visitors that want attention-grabbing travel photos. The chilly event includes interactive Christmas displays and scenes of regional holiday celebrations from around the world. Everyone is invited to watch the artists create new sculptures in a live exhibition called the Frostbite Factory. Five ice slides, a nativity scene crafted from ice, and many other photo opportunities are also planned.

Guests should bring warm clothing as the interior of the convention center will remain at 9 degrees during the duration of the event. The Christmas-themed activity is to be on display through January 7, 2018 at the Alpine Village at 6000 West Osceola Parkway in Kissimmee. The times and fees vary by day, and tickets can be booked at the Marriott event website.
