Ball celebrates black history in Providence

January 21, 2014 by

The 31st annual Black Heritage Ball is taking place in Providence this February, and is a presentation of the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society. This year’s event is a tribute to the Celebrity Club.

The evening’s celebration will kick off with a marketplace and reception, which will feature a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres. Vendors are expected to be selling items such as African American art, handmade clothing, and other merchandise.

Later that evening, the main event will feature dinner, live entertainment, and a preview of an upcoming documentary about The Celebrity Club. There will be performances by the revue, Celebrity Club Remembered and the group Positivity, who will perform jazz standards while being accompanied by guitar players Dylan Molho and James Wright. Fittingly, this event takes place during Black History Month, making it a chance to give greater exposure to certain aspects of Providence’s history.

Invitations were sent out to Society members and those in the community who would likely be interested in attending this annual event. Flyers may have also been distributed through direct mail. When invitations and flyers are needed in Providence, they are often designed and printed with the help of local printing companies.

The Black Heritage Ball is taking place on February 8 at the Omni Providence Hotel. The reception will take place at 5:00 pm and tickets are $15. The dinner will run from 7:00 pm until midnight, with tickets priced at $100. To find out more about the event, contact the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society at 401-421-0606.
