Spring returns to local nature preserve

The Friends of Ballard Park is holding several events at the park this month and next to celebrate the return of spring.

The Spring Equinox Hike is planned for March 25 with a rain date of March 26. This is a one-hour hike through the trails and it will begin at Hazard Road. The cost to participate is a $5 donation per person or $15 for each group.

The Children’s Nature Workshop follows on April 19, centering on the topic of ‘Forest’. The workshop is recommended for children aged 7 to 12, costs $5 to attend, and will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.

On Earth Day, April 22, there are two events planned. Firstly, the Earth Day Clean Up will take place from 9:00 to 11:00 am, during which visitors will be asked to prune the trails, pick up garbage, and carry out some weeding. This will be followed by the Earth Day Tour of the newly cleaned up trails. Both will start at the Hazard Road entrance and have a rain date of April 23.

With the park being an important nature preserve in the area and a popular stop for school field trips, no doubt those who run the organization will be investing in marketing services to attract people from nearby communities such as Middletown.
