The 45th annual Christmas in Newport celebration is taking place for the entire month of December at various venues throughout the city.

The official opening will take place on December 1 at Washington Square. This free event will feature a speech from the Mayor, the Christmas tree lighting, and a cannon salute by the Newport Artillery. There will also be live entertainment.

Santa’s workshop will open on December 3 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm at the Easton’s Beach Rotunda Ballroom. For a $5 entrance fee, children will receive a goodie bag, ride the carousel, decorate cookies and take part in several craft activities.

Caroling on Broadway is planned for December 15; it will be starting at the Colony House at 3:30 pm.

Other events taking place over the month are set to include several walking tours including the Lantern Walking Tour, open houses of places such as the Doris Duke mansion, and ballet performances. Several choirs will also be performing over the course of the festival.

Families from nearby communities such as Middletown will no doubt want to participate in some of the planned activities. To help spread the word, organizers may have invested in flyer printing services.

Christmas in Newport will take place from December 1 to 31. To learn more about this event and all the activities, call 401-849-6454.
