April kick-off to help raise funds for Leukemia Cup Regatta

March 21, 2013 by

The starting event of the 2013 Leukemia Cup Regatta will take place in Barrington in early April.

It will feature world famous sailor Gary Jobson as a guest speaker, and he will be discussing his past experience in the world of sailing, the America’s Cup, various international races, and probably his preparations for the upcoming regatta to be held this spring in Newport. Guests will also enjoy several video presentations and will likely be served appetizers and refreshments.

The opening reception and the regatta are held to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The goal of the organization is to cure certain forms of cancer and provide services for those suffering from the disease and their families. Several events are held throughout the United States every year to raise money. The Leukemia Cup, which is held in various locations in the country, has raised over $42m in various locations.

The Leukemia Cup Regatta is for racers aged 50 and over and will take place in the Newport area from June 7 – 8. No doubt sailing fans from all over the area, including nearby Middletown, will want to attend and organizers are probably working with printing companies in the area to design and print advertising materials so that no one will miss out on this exciting yearly event.

The 2013 Leukemia Cup Regatta kick-off event will take place at the Barrington Yacht Club on April 10 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Tickets are $20. For more information, call 401-943-8888.
