Awards breakfast to recognize local green businesses

The annual ‘Save our Planet Awards’ Breakfast is taking place this year at the end of April. It is to be presented by the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce’s Environmental Committee.

Local businesses and individuals were nominated in six categories by their peers, and these range from travel and tourism, to non-profit and voluntary services. The person nominating the business must write between 200 and 250 words telling what the company’s environmental efforts have been and why they qualify for an award. The committee also chooses a winner for the Mark Lichty Founder’s Award if they feel any company has fulfilled the requirements.

Awards like these are used to help motivate local companies to institute policies that are more environmentally friendly. This can be a little as motivating employees to recycle more or as big as building a LEED-approved office building.

Printing companies in nearby Stroudsburg and other locales for the most part already follow many of the environmentally friendly practices promoted by the award. Most printing organizations and associations have standards that those in the industry subscribe to.

The awards ceremony is being held at the Chateau Resort and Conference Center on April 28. Tickets are $20 per person. To find out more about the event, including start and finish times, contact the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce at 570-421-4433.
