Newtown Chamber Orchestra to reach a crescendo

January 3, 2014 by

For those who love the three Bs (Bach, Beethoven and Brahms), there is a night of classical music ahead right here in Newtown, Pennsylvania.

Later this month, the Newtown Chamber Orchestra (NCO) will be presenting its second concert of the season – its annual ‘Soloists on Stage’.

This year’s performance will have a little Dvorak for violin and piano, three songs on poems by Pablo Neruda for double bass and oboe, and a mixed modern medley by the Trenton Brass Quintet. Also on the schedule will be a piano piece called Enchantments by Dett, the first movement of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5, K. 219 in A Major, and a jazz quartet playing Classic Music from Bach to Bebop. Tickets are available online.

Created in 1990, the NCO is a professional ensemble with local and internationally known soloists. Now in its 24th concert season, it has been bringing classical music, from baroque to contemporary, to venues around Bucks County for several years.

The orchestra also conducts three youth programs during the year: the Young Musician competition for promising musicians in grade 9 through12, the Kids Connect to the Classics for elementary children and their families, and Musicians in the Schools for middle-school aged children.

The concert will be at the Lutheran Church of God’s Love, 791 Newtown Yardley Road, Newtown on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 7:00 pm. Organizers looking to pull residents in for the evening and attract new orchestra recruits might be in discussions with brochure printers in the area.
