Bethlehem football team maintains winning streak

Lehigh University’s Mountain Hawks have held onto their winning streak by the thinnest of threads following a game against the Fordham Rams on Saturday, September 29.

Saturday’s win was the 14th in a row for the Bethlehem school’s football team. Lehigh University currently has the honor of having the longest winning streak in college football. So far this season, the team is 5-0.

During the game on Saturday, it was uncertain until the final moments whether Lehigh’s Mountain Hawks would be able to hold on to their undefeated streak. The team beat the Rams 34 to 31 thanks to a 22-yard field goal kicked by Jake Peery, the kicker for the Mountain Hawks. Peery’s field goal was perfectly timed, occurring within the final seconds of the game.

Before the game-winning kick, Lehigh took control of the game by making the Rams punt from their 7-yard line. With just three seconds left on the clock, Peery kicked it over the goal post from 22 yards away.

Saturday’s game was the Mountain Hawks 15th straight win against a Patriot League Team. The team’s next opponent is the Lions of Columbia University, who it will play on October 6. Things look hopeful for the Mountain Hawks’ continued winning streak next, seeing as the Lions recently lost to the Princeton Tigers – a team Lehigh beat a few weeks ago.

Should the Bethlehem school maintain its winning streak, banner printing from a local print shop might be in order. The banners could list the length of the football team’s winning streak and name the teams defeated.
