Ring in the New Year in Allentown

This New Year’s Eve will also kick off the 250th anniversary of Allentown. The 800 block of Hamilton Street will be closed off on December 31 for this free, family-friendly celebration. Allentown printing companies have provided a flyer which gives details of this event, which was has been distributed throughout the city.

There will be lots of outdoor activities to take part in at the New Year’s Eve Celebration. The Allentown School District Orchestra, the Burning Hearts Fire and Light Theater and the East Coast Dance Connection will be entertaining those attending. There will also be ice carving from Ice Works and carriage rides from Ironton Livery and Coach; carriage rides must be reserved in advance. There will also be food and beverages for sale.

This year will also feature the first annual Bell Drop at PPL Plaza. At 8pm there will be the lifting of the bell ceremony and the ringing of the bell. Beginning at 11:30 the Bell Drop celebration will commence. At midnight, all the churches in Allentown will ring their bells; residents are also encouraged to ring bells at midnight wherever they are. Commemorative bells can be purchased for $9.

Also on New Year’s Eve, the Bells will be Ringing Gala will be held at the Holiday Inn. This event is a fundraiser for the 250th anniversary celebrations to be held in 2012. The evening will begin at 7pm with cocktails and a silent auction. Musical guests include Roberta Meek and Lucky Seven. A three-course meal will be served and there will be an open bar. Tickets are $125 per person.
