Allentown holds largest annual street festival

The arrival of fall means the arrival of Oktoberfest, the largest street festival in Allentown. This year’s festival will take place this weekend.

The annual event, now in its sixth year, is hosted by the West End Alliance; an organization of local business owners dedicated to maintaining and preserving the West End Theater District in the city. Proceeds from this year’s Oktoberfest will go towards revitalization and growth projects in the neighborhood.

Oktoberfest will be held along 19th Street, which was recently renovated. The new and improved street now features benches, planters, trees, and lights. The area has been redesigned to be more walkable, and now has more crosswalks for pedestrians and secure places to lock bicycles. The $3m renovation project was just the start of an improvement project that will revive the entire West End.

The West End Alliance can use flyer printing to advertise the performances and activities during Oktoberfest. Bands and musical acts are set to perform starting at noon and continuing until the end of the day. Local brewing company, Fegley’s Brew Works, will once again be brewing a special edition Oktoberfest Lager, which will only be sold at the festival. People are able to purchase frosty mugs during the event that can be refilled countless times during the day.

Along with music and beer, Oktoberfest will feature kid-friendly activities such as face painting. Local restaurants will be selling food during the festival, too, and it will stretch down 19th Street between Liberty and Allen streets.

It takes place this Saturday, October 5, starting at noon and ending 10:00 pm.
