Harry Potted for Schenectady

There are many fans of the Harry Potter series of books and movies in Schenectady, much as there are across the rest of New York. For those spellbound for another title in the series, Proctors Theatre is putting on a show over the next week that is bound to bewitch.

As print companies have been helping advertise, the hugely successful ‘Potted Potter’ is coming to town. Having played to sell-out crowds in Chicago for the past two months, it is expected the five-day run of the show here will be just as popular.

An innovative take on the boy wizard series of books by Joanne Rowling, Potted Potter is a two-man show which condenses all seven books into one bite-sized 70-minute spectacular.

All the favorite characters feature, including Harry, Ron and Hermione – all played by British-duo Jeff Turner and Dan Clarkson.

Initially created as a marketing trick back in 2005, it was only a sideshow to the release of ‘Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince’. From its beginnings in the London shopping district of Oxford Street though, the show has been reworked and become a global sensation.

From next week, Schenectady folks will be able to see just what all the fuss is about for themselves. Said to be a great family day out that entertains on many levels, Potted Potter parodies the books to an extent, but does so in a wonderfully respectful way. It even sees fire-breathing dragons and a game of Quidditch taking place in the theater itself.

The show runs from Tuesday January 15 through Sunday January 20.
