Port Jefferson eats for charity

Hungry stomachs with a conscience can now get their burger fix and make a contribution at the same time. Five Guys Burgers and Fries, located at 5120 Nesconset Hwy in Port Jefferson Station, is participating with Kraft Foods to support Feeding America.

The two-week national campaign to raise money for hunger relief kicked off earlier this week, September 18, and is a simple process to donate a meal. Every customer that makes a trip to Five Guys during the promotion period just needs to click on the KraftCheese.com/checkin using a mobile device. According to Kraft, patrons will also get a coupon for KRAFT American Cheese slices as an added appreciation for their efforts. Explicit directions for how to donate will be posted on a sign at the entrance and registers of the restaurant.

Kraft Foods has been a supporter of Feeding America for more than twenty years, contributing a total of $770 million dollars in cash and food, in addition to providing over one billion meals. With this latest Five Guys partnership, Kraft anticipates donating another 100,000 meals to the country’s largest food relief organization.

While donations to Feeding America are always welcome, the current campaign is timed to coincide with National Hunger Action Month. Each year, the business community in Port Jefferson steps up to do its fair share of ‘giving back’ to causes that benefit families and individuals both locally and nationally.

From the print shop that produces banner printing free of charge for a worthy cause, or an eatery like Five Guys that has the ability to partner on a national project, business contributions are a staple at all levels of philanthropic giving, which is another good reason for village residents to buy local.
