‘The Prodigal Son Returns’ is the name of the spring gala hosted by The Frank Ohman School of Ballet/New York Dance Theatre. This event will be held this evening in honor of the illustrious ballet icon, Edward “Eddie” Villella, who hitched his wagon to becoming a star when he became the key dancer of Balanchine’s City Ballet in NYC for over twenty years.

‘The Prodigal Son’ was one of Villella’s most celebrated performances, hence the title of the spring gala. As the recipient of copious awards — such as the prestigious National Medal of Honor — Villella was instrumental in the popularity increase of this genre. His accolades include the title of producer and director of ‘Dance in America’ the PBS series, as well as his nomination and Emmy award for CBS’s ‘Harlequinade’.

While performing for several U.S. presidents, he also appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show , as well as The Odd Couple and The Guiding Light. In addition, he was given the starring role in the made-for-TV versions of The Nutcracker, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, and Brigadoon – so he has plenty to show off on his digital business cards .

The festivities begin at 5:00 pm tonight, April 22, at 495 Landing Avenue in Smithtown, which is about 15 minutes from Melville. It is an opportunity to meet Edward Villella and join him for a fabulous evening of cocktails, dancing, dinner, a silent auction, and raffles.
