Turkey Trotters are in training

The YES Community Counseling Center’s Turkey Trot returns for its third annual 5K Run/Walk and Youth Fun Run at Brady Park in Massapequa Park next month.

The mission of the YES Community Counseling Center (YES CCC) is to treat and prevent drug-related problems, encourage families to be healthy, and aim for communities to be safe. A host of services are provided in pursuit of this mission, including general counseling, parenting programs, and school-based social work services.

The support provided by a range of local stores, eateries, and facilities has helped defray the costs of bringing this fundraising event to the public. Printing companies may be playing their part to publicize the race. Participants and spectators are asked to bring along a non-perishable food item to help a family in need.

The Turkey Trot is a USA Track & Field certified race and the top three male and female finishers in each of the 15 age-group divisions will receive awards.

Register by mail by November 10 to save $5 on the registration fee. Individual registration before the day of the race is $25 and $30 on race day. The youth run registration fee is $15. Registrations can also be made at the event’s website.

The event is set to take place on the morning of Sunday, November 18. Other fundraising events on the YES CCC calendar include the Darkness Rising Haunted Attraction, running Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings through October, as well as Halloween Night. More information about the YES CCC can be found at its website.
