Family 5K to ring in 2013 for a good cause

December 22, 2012 by

Families can begin the new year with a bang and a run, all to raise funds for LICADD — the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence.

Massapequa Park-based Massapequa Road Runners’ next event is a one-of-its-kind dash into 2013. The race, which will take place in Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, will begin when the ball atop the Number One Times Square reaches the bottom of its flagpole (as seen from video screens set up for the event). The course itself will feature colorful lights and music to create a unique running experience.

The celebration will continue for registered participants until 2:00 am, with a buffet, beverages, party favors, and DJ music and dancing. The race is open to those aged six years and older, and participants are encouraged to arrive a minimum of half an hour ahead of the midnight start. Runners will each receive a T-shirt and medal. Participation costs $68 per person (race and party inclusive), and registration remains open through December 24. Those who wish to attend the party only may register as such, but there is no discount extended to non-runners.

LICADD, the organization benefiting from the proceeds of the event, works to prevent abuse of drugs and alcohol in the Long Island community.

These and other fundraising activities can benefit from the assistance of businesses in the communications fields, including printing companies, radio and television stations, website developers, and social media consultants. Pro bono flyer and poster printing, media mentions, and social shares foster wider participation in nonprofit community benefits.
