Ball games and family fun day planned

Everyone is invited to join as a competitor or a spectator at the 6th Annual Memorial Bocce Tournament and Family Day Tournament.

The Massapequa Kiwanis are hosting the event at John J. Burns Park. There are eight professional courts ready for athletes to compete for the grand prize. The event will include the tournament, plenty of food and beverages, and live music, as well as a magic show.

The tournament and family day festivities are open to everyone and the proceeds are donated to the Anthony Tesoriero Memorial Scholarship Fund, which helps teenagers interested in pursuing music careers.

Admission cost is $65 per player and $45 for non-players on the day of the event. A $5 discount is offered if tickets are purchased prior to the day of the tournament. Corporate and individual sponsors are also sought. Flag sponsorship costs $150 and court sign sponsors will pay $50. All flags and signs are prominently displayed during the tournament.

Business owners interested in this type of event should consider the potential benefits of assembling their own sports teams for any type of athletic competition, perhaps taking advantage of promotional products available like T-shirts and hats.

The bocce ball tournament is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 16 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The activities are being held at John J. Burns Park at 4990 Merrick Road in Massapequa Park. For more information, call Phil Tesoriero at 516-238-2099 or email at
