The New York City Business Networking Group has given professionals a heads up in announcing Wal-Mart’s “Get on the Shelf” Contest.

Although most entrepreneurs and professionals are accustomed to the New York City Business Networking Group’s meet-ups, things are a little bit different this time around. Wal-Mart is giving small business owners the opportunity of a lifetime with its “Get on the Shelf” Contest.

Ilana Eberson, the group’s main organizer, explains it on the site with the following quote:

“Many small manufacturers and solopreneur inventors who dream of getting their product into Wal-Mart. Well, here’s your chance. The winner of this contest will be featured and in Wal-Mart stores, as well as receive marketing help and assistance in scaling up production to meet the retail behemoth’s needs.

You could win:

• featured placement on
• valuable marketing support
• advice on scaling up
• and a spot on Walmart store shelves!

You enter by submitting a video about your business — looks like they’d prefer them served up via YouTube.” (sic.

For Island Park professionals, there’s no travel involved with this contest as it’s a simple matter of putting together a video and going from there. With the featured website status acting essentially in place of digital business cards, this is also an opportunity for a company to quickly build up an online reputation for itself.

With the final submission date of February 22nd fast approaching, however, business owners with plans to participate in this event will need to move quickly.
