The Buglisi Dance Theater Returns to Kaatsbaan

November 5, 2012 by

This weekend, Buglisi Dance Theater will be returning to the Kaatsbaan International Dance Center in Tivoli, New York. The Kaatsbaan Center, in association with the New York State Council on the Arts, made it possible for Buglisi Dance Theater to hold several long-term residencies in the past, during which time the company put on several well-received performances and worked with students in area schools.

The company, headed by artistic director Jacqulyn Buglisi, is known for its powerfully visual and technically strong pieces. Buglisi’s work is drawn from literature, history, and heroic archetypes, which she showcases in her pieces.

The program for this year will feature two pieces that debuted in past Kaatsbaan performances. The first, ‘Blue Cathedral’, is based on a Magritte painting and debuted in 2003, while the second, ‘Letters of Love on Ripped Paper’, was first performed in 2010.

Buglisi Dance Theater will also premier two new pieces – ‘This is Forever’, a dance based on the novella by Mildred Cram, and ‘Snow Falling on Water’, which is still a work in progress but is about a first generation American growing up in Brooklyn. Finally, the company will also perform its most famous piece, ‘Requiem’.

The performances are on Saturday, November 10 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, November 11 at 2:30 pm. General admission is $30 but there are student rush and children’s tickets available at $10. The Kaatsbaan Center will probably be calling on printing companies to create flyers and other promotional materials for this event, letting people in nearby areas like Hyde Park, New York know that Buglisi Dance Theater is back.
