New Afghan restaurant to open in Hicksville

Main Bakhtar Halal, a chain of Afghan restaurants, is getting set to open a location in Hicksville, taking over the premises recently occupied by the Mediterranean restaurant Miraj Healthy Grill.

With its latest outlet located at 96 Broadway, the new Afghan restaurant also has locations in Fresh Meadows and Flushing, where a manager confirmed the plans to open in Hicksville, though no date has been set as yet.

It is expected that the menu in Hicksville will be similar to those in the Flushing and Fresh Meadows locations, featuring Afghan dishes that have rice and meat as their main components. These include selections such as kebabs put together in the Afghani style, and mantoo, a type of meaty dumpling.

Miraj opened its Hicksville location in 2015, and still operates two others – one in Manhattan and the other in Williston Park. Before Miraj, a number of Indian restaurants tried to make a go of the space, including Aspara, the Curry Club, and Taste of Madras.

Before the various Indian restaurants moved in, the premises were home to a series of Italian eateries including Pasta’s Café, Café Dolce Vita, Taormina, and Fabio’s.

New businesses like this might consider distributing promotional products to their first customers, both to say thank you, and to help build brand awareness among local community members.
