Farm Fest 2012

On Sunday, May 6, Queens Country Farm Museum will be hosting “Farm Fest”. Queens Country Farm Museum is located at 7450 Little Neck Parkway, Floral Park, New York….just a jot down the road from Hewlett, New York. The event will run from 11am to 4pm.

This uniquely country event has a number of farm related demonstrations including the annual sheep shearing and wool spinning demonstration, as well as a community compost project led by farmers who are also offering in-depth gardening and plant seminars. While at this event, guests will be able to pick up seedlings, spring flowers, vegetables, and shrubs, bushes, and trees. While guests are at this festival, they can enjoy a tour of the history Adriance Farmhouse, green house tours, plant sale, food, hayrides, pony rides, and the various animals in the petting zoo. This event is for the whole family.

Guests attending Farm Fest will leave behind the hectic pace of the larger communities to enjoy the more tranquil environment down on the farm. Owned by the City of New York, Department of Parks and Recreation, The Queens Country Farm Museum is dates back 1697 and is the largest acreage of undisturbed farmland. Currently the farm has 47 acres of land which includes historic farm buildings, planting fields, farm vehicles and implements, a greenhouse complex, vineyard, orchard, and herb garden. The historic farmhouse on this property is operated by the by the Colonial Farmhouse Restoration Society of Bellerose.

Local banner printing companies will have been on hand to assist with display materials for this facility and the City of New York. Admission to this event is $5 per person, or free with membership.
