Bay Shore in for caroling commencement

When it comes time for caroling, Sagtikos Manor aiming to make itself the place to start in Bay Shore, New York, near Flushing. With a theme this year of ‘Here we Come a Caroling’ participants will have the chance to learn all about the history of caroling during the holidays, with tours leaving every 15 minutes.

The Sagtikos Manor will be decorated throughout with each room featuring a specific Christmas Carol. The Docents will dress from the period at the manor and will provide brief narration in each room. After the tours, hot beverages and cookies will be available.

Friends of the Manor Gardens will display and sell seasonal decorations in the gift shop, offering a wide selection of holiday items. Frequently, local printing companies are approached to provide materials for special events, with flyer printing orders a common request.

The manor was built in 1697 and was expanded in space in 1772 and again in 1902. Serving as the headquarters at the time for the British Army on Long Island, the estate was part of the Revolutionary War. During the tour of the area in 1790, President George Washington stayed at the manor. Viewing the room where he slept is included in the tour.

Furnished with original family pieces such as furniture and accessories, the manor offers many displays from the 1600s through the mid-1900s.

The event is scheduled for December 7 with tours beginning at 11:00 am. Tickets are on sale for $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and $5 for children, and they must be reserved by December 4.
